People Centred Care (PCC)
The working group aims to put on the table different concepts
like 'Patient-Oriented Care', 'People-Centred Care',
'Community Participation', 'Community-Oriented Care' and linked
themes such as the human dimension in health care services and the
capacity to meet the existing needs.
In People-Centred Care, the health needs of the individual and
the community are central. It enhances care which puts the
expectations, feelings and environment of the patient and the
community first. People-Centred Care takes into account the social
determinants of health. The community, patients and care providers
are equal partners with a shared responsibility. (Adapted from
"Primary Health Care: Now More Than Ever", World Health Report
2008.

People-Centred Care is an umbrella bringing together the
concepts 'Patient-Oriented Care', 'People-Centred Care', 'Community
Participation and Empowerment', Community-Oriented Care',
'responsiveness to health needs', and related themes.
