ITM alumni webinar series featuring the winners of the Prize for Global Research 2025 of the Province of Antwerp
This new series of ITM alumni webinars features the four ITM winners of the Prize for Global Research 2025. The Prize for Global Research is awarded yearly by the Province of Antwerp to research projects of ‘master-after-master’-students of ITM and other Higher Education Institutes. Development relevance, quality and originality of the master theses are key in the selection. Through this award, the Province of Antwerp wants to stimulate global research.
In webinar #4, MPH-alumnus and laureate Abdirahman Ahmed Suleiman (Somaliland) will share insights from his master thesis, entitled “Wealth-based Inequality in Maternal Health Service Utilization Among Ever-Married Women of Reproductive Age in Somaliland. Secondary Analysis of the 2020 Demographic and Health Survey”.
In his Master’s thesis, Mr. Suleiman aimed to determine the prevalence of adequate attendance to antenatal care visits and childbirth in public health facilities among ever-married women of childbearing age in Somaliland. He further analysed the socioeconomic determinants of maternal health service utilization indicators with a focus on exploring wealth-based inequalities using nationally representative data from the 2020 Somaliland Demographic and Health Survey. He used logistic regression to identify determinants of service utilization and calculated measures of inequality using relative difference and concentration indices to quantify wealth-based inequality.
In this webinar, Abdirahman will present the main findings and outcomes of his thesis, and discuss his recommendations and conclusion. The Q&A-session, moderated by his thesis supervisor Aline Semaan, will enable to answer questions from the audience.
