Celebrating Women in Science: Dionicia B. Gamboa Vilela’s trajectory in research, science and academics’
Celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science, this ITM alumni webinar puts in the spotlight the career path in research, science and academics of ITM PhD alumna Dionicia B. Gamboa Vilela. Dionicia B. Gamboa Vilela is a biologist with a PhD in Biomedical sciences (Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium and the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands. She currently works as a full professor at the Faculty of Science and Philosophy (FACIE) at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). She is also director of the Malaria laboratory, belonging to both units FACIEN and the Institute of Tropical Medicine “Alexander Von Humboldt” (IMTAvH) at UPCH, one of ITM’s longstanding partner institutions. She was also awarded with a number of Prizes for Women in Science, both at international and regional level.
In this webinar, Dionicia will talk about her study and career trajectory in research, science and academics, while also shedding some light on the current situation of ‘Women in Science’ in Peru. Moreover, Dionicia will also talk about the important role of mentors and institutional support in a scientific career. Her personal experience and presentation will serve as the starting point for an exchange and discussion on the challenges she has been facing as a woman in science along the way.
The Q&A-session will be moderated by Anteneh Asefa, Research Fellow at the Sexual and Reproductive Health Research Group, and member of the ITM Working Group on Gender and Diversity.
